Built in the 1950s as a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, the Coca-Cola bottling plant
was a shining example of modern architecture. By the mid-1990s, Coca-Cola had relocated and the building sat vacant.
The Fire Chief and Police Chief saw this as an opportunity to get a much needed Fire and Police Station in a section
of Albemarle requiring protection, and to reinvigorate a declining neighborhood. The building was well built and
suitable for renovation. Its size allowed for fire administration, fire station, and community police offices.
The departments share a common parking lot, lobby, exersize room, and training room, which has a separate entrance.
The training room also serves as a Community Room. This project received a 2005 Station Style Design Award.
