Looking at Wentworth Fire Station No. 30, one would not guess this new station is a renovation and addition
to a forty year old structure. This project stems from a 7,450 square foot addition added onto the existing 4,200 square foot station. The existing 60' x
70' station held three small bays, one work bay, and a watch room and dayroom. To accommodate years for growth, the fire department needed six bays and a
facility that would serve a full-time department in the future. One unique feature were the six brick stew pots used for a semi-annual Bar-B-Que fundraiser.
These were saved and incorporated into the new design. A large training room, dormitory, day room and dining area took the space of the three existing bays.
Offices, bathrooms and a commerical kitchen were incorporated into the new addition. The circulation pattern around the kitchen was planned for the two hundred
plus visitors the station has on BBQ days. In addition to a decontamination room and hose room, two storage mezzanines were built into the tall space of the
apparatus room. The contrasting brick bands and covered columnade complement an entry tower that makes this the new landmark in the town of Wentworth.
